Chapter 1
After riding the Ferris Wheel at Navy Pier, Philip and Chloe walked hand-in-hand in silence as they exited the Navy Pier and turned left onto Lake Shore Drive.
“So,” Philip broke the silence, nervously glancing at Chloe before facing front again. “Parker is staying at Lucinda’s tonight, huh?”
Chloe nodded. “That’s right.”
“Hope he sleeps okay,” Philip mumbled.
“Sorry?” Chloe said.
“Um. I said I hope he sleeps through the night.”
“Oh. Right. Me too.”
As they passed a taxi stand at the corner of Randolph and Lake Shore, a few blocks from the office building, Chloe asked, “Do you want to catch a cab home?”
“No.” Philip pursed his lips. “I’m not in any hurry. … Are you?”
“No, not really.” Chloe laughed a little and held up their linked hands. “One of us has sweaty palms,” she laughed. “Or maybe both of us.”
Philip cleared his throat. His palms may be sweaty but his throat was dry. Hell, he was nervous. The last three months had been torture in many ways, but they were also fun. Philip and Chloe had reconnected and talked and flirted and dated and romanced. There were some hiccups along the way, but mostly things had gone well — well enough that they wanted to move things to the next level.
The doctor wanted them to do without sex for three months to take the importance off of the act, but instead, it served to focus so much importance on sex, that now that they were finally cleared for takeoff, he felt like an awkward teenager doing it for the first time.
It really wasn’t surprising that he was anxious. The three months was just a line in the sand, the minimum time the therapist recommended from the time they decided to reconcile. The last time he and Chloe had sex was before the divorce, nine months ago. And that was the only time he’d been with any woman since the previous October when their relationship spiralled downward.
So it had been a year for them, except for that one time in March. And for the past twelve weeks, Chloe had been tantalizing Philip, both intentionally and unintentionally. Just being near her got him hot and bothered. But it was more important to him to get things right this time than to satisfy his lust.
Philip laughed and released her hand. Putting his arm around her shoulder, he exhaled. “It’s probably me. I can’t believe I’m gonna say this, but I’m kind of nervous.”

It's cute that Philip's nervous....but I'm glad, too. It feels like he's really committed to getting this relationship right. What a great way to start off your new story!!!

Another Phloe story! When will it end? Lol I am just kidding! I'm so happy you have started yet another Phloe story! Geez I haven't even finished reading Once Upon A Time. But don't worry I will. I have a question is this a sequel to Once Upon A Time? Or do they stand alone?

Yes, it's the next part of the saga and follows Once Upon a Time, so read that first. I'm glad everyone liked the start of the story. New chapter coming up. |

Chapter 1b
Chloe laughed a little and held up their linked hands. “One of us has sweaty palms,” she laughed. “Or maybe both of us.”
Philip laughed and released her hand. Putting his arm around her shoulder, he exhaled. “It’s probably me. I can’t believe I’m gonna say this, but I’m kind of nervous.”
“Thank god.” Chloe leaned her head against Philip’s shoulder. “So am I. I feel like a teenager.”
Philip stopped walking. He faced Chloe and held her shoulders. “I gotta tell you, these have been the longest three months of my life and I want us to be together, Chloe, but….”
“There’s a but?” She sounded a little incredulous as she searched his eyes.
“It … it …,” he stuttered, “it’s just that it feels like there’s so much riding on this.”
“I know,” she nodded, looking into his eyes. “I feel the same way. It’s weird. I couldn’t wait to be with you, but now….”
“Exactly,” he nodded. “Now that the sanctions have been lifted and there are no more obstacles….”
Chloe laughed. “The reality is setting in and it’s a little scary. ... So um your place or mine?”
He took a deep breath and leaned in for a kiss. Chloe pulled on Philip’s collar and pressed her lips to his.
Leaning away without releasing her, Philip swallowed the lump in his throat. Holding her, he wasn’t sure which one of them was trembling, him or her. His heart was pounding like a 16 year old. When he was 16 and had little-to-no experience, he didn’t feel as hesitant as he felt right now — probably because at 16 he didn’t understand what losing Chloe would be like. But by now, he’d experienced love and loss ten times over. “My place is closer.”
Raising an eyebrow, she observed, “I’ve never been to your man cave.”
He smiled and took a step back. Taking her hand, he said, “That’s one more thing that’s long overdue. Ready?”
When Chloe smiled, Philip tucked her hand on his arm and they headed up Randolph Street.

I love that these two are (finally) on the same page!  Now, the big question is...will you have an opportunity to give us a preview? (You knew I was going to ask...) Or is it too early in the story for that? |
