Chapter 11
Over the next few days, turning into weeks, Claire and Ciara traveled the north western part of the United States. From Fargo, North Dakota, they traveled across the mountains of Montana. They drove a little south from there into Wyoming. From there, they went further south west, into Utah. After spending a few days there, they went back north and into Idaho. Having gotten their fill of potatoes while there, they traveled up to Washington, which is where we catch up with them.
SPACE NEEDLE – SEATTLE, WASHINGTON
The girls had gotten their tickets and were now in line to go to the top of the tallest building in the state of Washington: the Space Needle.
CIARA: You're not still afraid of heights, are you?
CLAIRE: If I was, I wouldn't be going up with you.
CIARA: Good point.
CLAIRE: I got over my fear of heights about five years ago, when my parents and I took a seven passenger airplane ride to find the Fancy Face IV after it was stolen.
CIARA: Cool. Not that it was stolen, I mean that you conquered your fear of heights.
CLAIRE: Yep. So, how are you feeling?
CIARA: Better. Thanks for letting me drive again.
CLAIRE: No worries. Besides, we can't have you tossing your cookies every few hours.
CIARA: I have no idea why it affects me like that. When I'm driving, I'm perfectly fine, I just don't do well in the passenger's seat.
A computerized voice called for everyone to get on board.
CLAIRE: Here we go.
The girls got in, as well as a bunch of other people. They stood inside the large elevator for a few minutes, which seemed to take an eternity. Then, the elevator doors opened, and the people got out.
CLAIRE & CIARA: Whoa!
The girls gazed in amazement as they stepped onto the observation deck of the tower.
CLAIRE: This is...
CIARA: Amazing!
They walked around the deck.
CLAIRE: It's like you can see everything! Like, the whole of Seattle.
CIARA: I'd say it's more than just Seattle, Bear. I think we can see most of Washington from up here.
CLAIRE: It feels that way.
They came to the other side of the deck moments later.
CIARA: Look at that!
CLAIRE: What is it?
CIARA: The Puget Sound, an inlet of the Pacific Ocean.
CLAIRE: It's beautiful!
In another part of the deck, they saw a huge range of mountains.
CLAIRE: Cascade or Olympic?
CIARA: Cascade. The ones we saw a little bit ago are the Olympic.
Claire whistled.
CLAIRE: How long can we stay up here?
CIARA: As long as we want. We have the whole day up here.
CLAIRE: Sweet! This is so beautiful!
CIARA: It sure is.
CLAIRE: We gotta take a picture of these mountains.
Ciara and Claire both took out there phones and snapped pictures of themselves from the needle's observation deck.
CLAIRE: You're sending those to grandma and grandpa, right?
CIARA: Of course. You're sending them to Shawn and Belle?
CLAIRE: Definitely. Everywhere we go, we have to send our parents at least one picture.
CIARA: For sure.
CLAIRE: This is amazing!
CIARA: It really is! I'm so glad you asked me to come with you on this trip!
CLAIRE: Same here!
