I don't watch it, but I enjoyed your recap anyway. Great writing!

I watched The Closer and drifted away a bit after Major Crimes first started, so I've been playing catch-up with the mini-marathon TNT aired last week. But man, Sanchez's backstory just had me in tears last night. It's been a long time coming, from a soft reveal of him having lost his wife when he was giving Brenda and Fritzi (I can't call him anything else) well-wishes via the wedding video on The Closer. I wasn't expecting the additional parts to the story though. I love how much depth they have given him over the years.

I never watched The Closer so for me this was the first I heard of Sanchez's backstory. But wow was it emotional. DAYS could learn a thing or two about how to use backstory properly from this episode IMO. I know a lot of fans don't like Rusty but honestly his story is what drew me in in the first place. I love what they're doing with him so far this season.

I really like Captain Raydor's relationship with Rusty and I like that she's a very strong and tough lady. I like Lieutenant Flynn too and I think I actually caught him on that Drew Peterson Lifetime movie a while back. It's a very unusual, interesting show and the characters are very engaging.
I actually like Rusty and I guess I could kind of see why people would find him annoying but generally he's not that annoying. I also like that Rusty actually gets something to do this season instead of just hiding out in the police station trying to get away from a crazed psycho that might be trying to kill him.

I like Rusty a lot too. But I notice that a lot of people don't like teen characters, period. I see it all the time on some other DAYS forums; some people hate that there are teens in Salem at all, and I wonder if it's the same mentality that drives a lot of fans to hate Rusty. Here's my review of Episode 2: www.tvfanatic.com/2015/06/major-crimes-season-4-episode-3-review-open-line/

Oh, you're writing for T.V. Fanatic now, heroicmuse? Congratulations! I wish I could write there as well. Yeah, I believe a lot of people tend to view teenagers as immature and silly but for some reason I find them fascinating. That's why I love to read fanfiction about characters de-aged into high school settings and I guess it's also the drama and angst that pulls me in for some reason. That could be one of the main reasons I love Youthful Daze as well. You have a large majority of characters in their late teens/early 20s and yet they're so relatable and convincing. It helps that the guy who plays Drew Castle, which is Bryan James, also created the show and writes for it. On the other hand, I think teenagers getting into all kinds of trouble is more interesting than kids because you can do so much more with teens in general, especially in daytime soaps. I find a lot of teens annoying in real life but somehow they make for great T.V.!

Thanks sevenna92! I've been writing for them for the past month or so. I'm having a lot of fun! What is Youthful Daze? It sounds interesting. I think people don't have patience for the way teens see the world and for what they think are overly dramatic feelings. I work on a crisis line geared towards teens and I have a lot of respect for their struggles, plus I hope to work with teens and their families when I get my counseling license.

Youthful Daze is a teen web series where you have a bunch of rich kids from Southern California, (I kind of forgot what town they live in or what school they go to, but it's a prep school), and they get into a lot of shenanigans. It's really crazy and intense.
You have this one kid named Drew who I think was molested by his dad and his parents died in a car accident, apparently triggering some sort of alter ego named Josh who apparently is straight. Drew is actually also gay and he's in love with a guy named Tommy but they have a lot of ups and downs. They had to deal with another guy named Oliver who actually is the stepbrother of Natalie Cardin, who's friends with Drew. Drew and Natalie had a falling out for a while because Natalie had a ONS with a guy named Colin whom Drew also had feelings for and they were on drugs for a while too. And Drew kind of pushed Natalie away because of that. I don't think Natalie meant to hurt him but she was so screwed up because she believes her dad died when in reality he's alive and he has largely disowned her and is now trying to kill her by hiring a guy named Jimmy, who also has issues with his brother. And every other episode they would have big fights about Jimmy's brother getting into a life of crime or something.
This is not the first time Natalie's dad has faked his own death. He pretended to die in a plane crash but then he came back in order to seize back control of his company from his own daughter, but Natalie wouldn't have it. Natalie is such an awesome person and I have no idea why she has no regular love interest other than Tyler, (who was another hired hit man that was summoned to kill her but he developed feelings for her; I'm kinda of a big Natalie/Tyler shipper myself for some reason).
I'll admit when they showed the scene where Natalie winds up in bed with Colin, I literally freaked out and I was like, "Oh my God, is she turning into Theresa?!" Because that's the type of thing she would do. Jen Lilley is pretty great at portraying Natalie and I feel she's so under-utilized and unappreciated on Days. And I'll admit too that for some reason I get a kick out of her cursing on that show. I just see her as this wholesome, sweet, innocent lady and it just makes me laugh. It's like you watch a childhood hero that you've admired your whole life and then when they start dropping f-bombs left and right, you're like, "Whoa!"
Christell Strause also plays a character named Zoey who, (like Jordan), also has a secret but she's more of an interesting character than she was and I think she was related to Cody, (the guy that died from lung cancer last week). I think she works for some guy and she's supposed to keep an eye on Cody or something, I'm not quire sure. But anyways through her role as Zoey Christell Strause is able to demonstrate that she's a very capable actress and that Days just did a horrible job handling her, period.
Another character I like is Mallorie and she's a smart and loyal person who obviously cares for her friends. She was the one that got into a car crash and she was in a coma for a while. She eventually woke up and I'm glad she did because she is one of my faves right now.
One character I love to hate is Randy. He's a screwed up sicko that raped Drew on Halloween and yet Drew kept on going back to him. And did I mention that Drew is/was a player? He basically ran around with Tommy and then Oliver and then Randy and then Colin. Randy is so screwed up man. I'm so glad that Tommy smothered him because he deserved it.
Sometimes there are some shots that are used that bother me a lot because I feel like I can't see each person's facial expression and reactions up close and it's just so weird. But I don't really complain about it because the actors are really great and the characters so dynamic and well written, much better than Days right now unfortunately, (I hope that changes in August). The actors are definitely no less talented but the writing is what makes the difference.
I apologize for this super long post but I can talk about this show pretty much almost all day. That's how great it is.
