I'm curious as to the age of people going to the movie. The women I know who read the books and want to see the movie are all late 30's or older. That would be fun to know! I thought it was more of a 30s+ "thing" but then a friend's 18 y/o daughter read all the books and said her softball team did too. I don't think theaters can track that sort of stuff, but it'd be fun to know the ages of women and how many men went (or were forced to go by their wives) just out of curiosity. I've seen some people ranting on FB about being judged for going to the movie. It's no worse than watching these violent horror movies where people are stabbed, beaten, tortured, etc. To each his own is how I see it. People don't judge us for watching this crappy soap opera ... or maybe they do, lol!

I don't get why girls are so hyped about going to see porn? If you need this movie to spice up your marriage or relationship, you marriage or relationship issues are far worse then what you think. This movie is disturbing and gross

Considering the movie is rated R a lot must be left to the imagination or omitted completely.

Haven't read the book or seen the movie. But there are so many movies that have gratuitous sex and cold-blooded violence, that it seems ironic that this one has sparked so much controversy.

That's a very good point Kpatch. I find it far more disturbing that people enjoy watching movies that are about people being murdered in graphic details.

I saw 50 Shades today. The theater wasn't nearly as busy as I anticipated.
I liked the movie. I had my expectations well set. I thought the casting was good, the acting was good and the cinematography was great. The film won't win any awards, but for pure (or impure) escapism, it did its job. I have a feeling that the film was more romanticized, less graphic, and less punitive than the book, which I didn't read. The sadism was more implied than actually shown. The ending left the door wide open for a sequel.

Last I heard, movies are planned for all 3 books in the series.
AS to the doctor's "advice" - I find it very poorly addressing anything and making a ton of assumptions. One in point being that Ana fell for Christian's looks & money - nowhere in the book did it imply that she was looking to milk Christian for everything had.
Then she talks about flawed logic and doubtful of Ana's actions - I'm sorry. These stories were not based on a real-life story here. This is a movie and she is not in the writer or director's heads. When reading the book, even tho there were times it was doubtful, you knew in the end that Ana would end up with Christian and fall in love with him. That's a part of the fantasy.
I feel like this article is basically stating that "if you go see this movie then you are supporting abuse and rape", and that's just not the case and it aggravates me. it stuff like that that will send me straight to a theater to see it b/c 9 times out of 10, it is just a person looking for their 15 minutes of fame. I heard many varying opinions on the movie and I've had many of my married friends say "oh if only my husband could be more like Christian when........" and state a part of the story where it was the littlest of actions that got to them, it wasn't the hardcore BDSM parts that people are throwing such a hissy over. I sure haven't seen any of my friends running out and adding "playrooms" and fully equipping them according to the books, on to their houses.
I also realize that people don't believe in this lifestyle or that they've had horrible experiences in it so the movie touches some very difficult/sore spots for them. That's fine. They have the right to avoid the movie just like others have a right to see it and form an opinion on their own. No one should be judged or criticized for what they feel/believe. Like someone else said, they think that some are looking to spice it up in the bedrooom - I know a few friends that said they got a few ideas - nothing to the level that it went to in the books, but ideas none the less. And that's fine too. That's their business, not mine.
Sorry for the soapbox moment. I'm just to a point where I'm tired of all the judgements that I've seen being passed on people on both sides. Facebook really has it's downsides at times...

There's a rumor going around that Jamie Dornan won't be returning as Christian Grey for the sequels because his wife is uncomfortable with him doing the graphic scenes. Anyone else hear that?
I think it's just rumors though. The lead actors are under contract to do the sequels. I suppose he could get out of it if he really had to, but I don't think he really has to.

I heard a rumor that Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan did not get along. Were the scenes that graphic?

Seems like anyone getting involved with this movie would have known what they were getting into.

He's only been married for two years, so if it's the wife making waves, then it's possible his contract was signed before they were engaged/married. kathyj, the movie is R rated, so no, I did not think the scenes were that graphic. More implied than actually shown. But the actors were naked or nearly naked in many scenes. I probably wouldn't like my man having a job where he's around a naked woman so much of the time.
