WOW that kiss! I can't wait to see what's going on with the plane. I'm not usually a fan of disaster stories like plane crashes, but something had to happen to shake them up, and I'm hoping a near death experience will lead to a reconciliation. Great stuff Kpatch!

I enjoyed the kiss. I'm glad Chloe said all of those things to Philip. I hope the pilot can land the plane safely. I'm on the edge of my seat Kpatch.

Uh oh! I guess that conversation is going to be on hold for a while ... until they get things under control. But I sense an "I told you so" coming up regarding both of them not being on the same flight!

I'm so happy my internet came back on cuz I had to know what happened. What a chapter! I'm so happy Chloe finally got through to him. I'm so happy we got some Phloe loving, and then the plane wants to crash! Omg I can't with you Kpatch the things you put us through. Great chapter I can't wait to read more. P.S. I'm so happy this chapter isn't a Friday cliffhanger.

Chapter 61a
An explosion sounded, like the noise of a tire blowing out. The plane lurched. The cabin lights went out and the jet began to descend rapidly and a high-pitched humming sound filled the cabin.
Chloe grabbed Philip’s hand and squeezed tightly. Her heart lodged in her stomach. “What’s going on? Oh God, Philip. Are we going to die?”
Philip hit the intercom to the cockpit. “Joe? Joe, what’s going on!?!”
It took what felt like ages for Joe to respond and Philip began to wonder if Joe keeled over. Philip was getting ready to unbuckle his seatbelt and break into the cockpit. Finally, the pilot came on the speaker. “We lost an engine.”
“Oh God,” Chloe squeaked.
“Are we gonna make it?” Philip shouted.
“If we do, I want a raise,” Joe quipped. Within seconds, the plane leveled out and both Philip and Chloe exhaled deeply. “Joe, can you give me an assessment?”
“We’re about 45 minutes from Reno and I’m not sure we’re gonna make it all the way there. We may have to make an emergency landing. Hang tight.”
“Keep us posted,” Philip said. “And Joe, let me know if you want me in the cockpit. Don’t forget, I flew F15s in Iraq.”
“Mostly I need a spare engine, so if you’ve got one of those handy,” Joe joked, trying not to alarm his passengers. “Like I said, hang tight. I’ll let you know if I need backup.”
Philip looked over at Chloe and, even in the dim emergency lighting, he could see she was terrified, white as a ghost, still holding on tight to Philip’s hand as the plane bounced irregularly. “I knew this was a mistake,” he said.
Chloe looked back at him in a panic. “What are you talking about? What was a mistake?”
“Both of us being on the same flight. If we don’t make it, Parker’s an orphan, and I promised him he’d never be an orphan,” Philip said angrily. “I can’t tell you how much I hate breaking promises to him. Like the one where I promised him we’d be together as a family forever.”
“Oh god Philip. Stop it. Stop talking like everything is my fault.” Chloe couldn’t deal with Philip’s anger issues when they were seconds from disaster. “He won’t be an orphan.”
“Not sure what your definition of orphan is,” Philip said coldly, snapping into military mode. “If Parker’s parents die today, that makes him an orphan.”
“Oh please Philip. He won’t be alone. He has my parents. He also has Daniel and Nicole.”
“Fantastic. Just fantastic,” Philip muttered, rolling his eyes. “Daniel raising my son is my worst nightmare come true.”

Okay Chloe probably should have left off the comment about Daniel and Nicole. So glad we have two more updates before the weekend.

I still say it's time to call up Dr. Richards and have her moderate this conversation via speaker phone or video chat. Maybe they should call Will's marriage counselor since he is supposedly an expert and keeping couples together. LOL.

Another great chapter. Nothing like a possible plane crash to bring simmering conflicts to a head.

Chloe didn't know Philip would be on the plane. Getting mad at her isn't going to make your situation any better Philip.

I really enjoyed this chapter and I'm so happy the plane doesn't seem to be crashing. I truly hope Phloe gets back together soon.

Philip has every right to be angry and annoyed. BUT this is probably not the time for it. If/when they make it, I think Chloe is going to have her work cut out for her. Philip is way past the pining away for her stage if he's this upset even when faced with danger. They should have listened to us and had Dr. Richards on call! I hope she can help once they land ... wherever it is they land.

Philip has a right to be angry but not about the fact that they are both on the same plane. That isn't Chloe's fault. Nothing is going as Chloe hoped.

Chapter 61b
“Daniel raising my son is my worst nightmare come true.”
“That’s your worst nightmare?” Chloe was stunned. “We might only have a few minutes to live and you’re hanging on to your jealousy of Daniel?? Seems like your priorities are a little screwed up.”
“Mine?? Compared to you, I’m …. Nevermind. You wouldn’t understand.”
Chloe winced. “I wouldn’t understand?? That was uncalled for,” she answered defensively. “Look, all I meant is that Daniel loves Parker. He’d be a good father to him.”
“Father?” Philip looked at Chloe incredulously. Despite their angry words, their hands remained tightly intertwined. “Talk about uncalled for. Is that your idea of making me feel better?”
“No. It’s just … I just meant if anything happens to us, at least Parker won’t be alone in some orphanage the way I grew up.” A sharp decline in altitude reminded Chloe of that their lives could be over in an instant and these weren’t the last words she wanted to say to Philip if this was the end of the line. She couldn’t believe they were arguing at a time like this. Placing her other hand on top of his, she said, “Philip, you’re his father. You always will be. You’re an amazing father, just like you’re an amazing husband.”
The plane appeared to level out and the cabin lights flickered back on. From the cockpit, Joe announced, “We’re through the worst of it now. We should be able to make it the rest of the way on one engine. Reno tower has got us on their radar. Are you guys okay?”
“Yeah, Joe, we’re just dandy.” Philip released the intercom button and breathed a deep sigh as he ran a hand through his hair. “I need a drink.”
Chloe leaned back in her seat and let her body relax. She looked at Philip and squeezed the hand that was holding hers. “I guess we’re gonna live. Parker won’t be an orphan after all,” she said, trying to lighten the mood. “Philip, maybe when we get back to Chicago, things can be the way they used to be. In fact, there’s nothing I want more. Philip ….”
Philip looked at her sideways. “I’m the one who usually wears rose-colored glasses,” he said.
“What does that mean?”

Glad they are going to make it to Reno okay. Would love for them to be there long enough to work out their problems and maybe visit a chapel before they come home.
