Chapter 10 SMALL HOUSE – IRAQ – FLASHBACK It was nearing dawn now. Philip rolled over and, seeing Santa still kneeling there, sat up. Santa looked up and saw Philip staring at him. Philip raised his hand to his head in the form of a salute. PHILIP: Carry on, Santa. It's Christmas Day. All's secure. Santa looked at his watch. He nodded. He set down a package on the floor, then he stood. Philip stood as well. SANTA: Merry Christmas, my friend. May God bless you this night. The two shook hands. Then, Santa walked over to the chimney and climbed up. Moments later, a young First Lieutenant Philip Kiriakis heard the sound of sleigh bells leaving the room. SANTA (VO): Ho! Ho! Ho! Merry Christmas! KIRIAKIS MANSION PHILIP: “One look at my watch, and I knew he was right. 'Merry Christmas, my friend. May God bless you this night'.” Philip smiled at his son, who was now fast asleep. He kissed Parker on the forehead, then covered him with a quilt which had the American flag on it. CAR After a moment, J.J. and Paige broke away from each other. PAIGE: I'm sorry. I shouldn't have done that. J.J.: Don't be. It was both of us. J.J. hesitated. J.J.: I...I have to go. I should be getting home. PAIGE: Yeah. Me too. J.J. opened the door. PAIGE: J.J... J.J.: Yes? PAIGE: Merry Christmas. J.J.: You too. J.J. got out of the car, and watched as Paige drove away. SALEM U – FLASHBACK J.J. and Paige of two and a half years ago stood in the halls. J.J.: I just don't understand why you're doing this. PAIGE: I need my space, J.J. J.J.: And I'm trying to give it to you. I don't understand why you think that this is the right move. PAIGE: You're moving to New York, J.J., and I can't come with you. J.J.: So, this is your solution? PAIGE: It's the only one that I can think of. J.J.: Paige, I can't do this without you. PAIGE: Yes, you can. You'll have to. I'm sorry that it had to end this way, but it's for the best. J.J.: Yeah, sure. PAIGE: Goodbye, J.J. Paige took a ring off of her finger. It was a promise ring that J.J. had given to her on their first anniversary. Paige handed the ring to J.J.OUTSIDE S-MART J.J. stood by his car and watched as Paige's car exited the parking lot. J.J.: Merry Christmas. Merry Christmas, MyHourglass Forums. J.J. got back in his car and drove back home. There was one thing that he noticed, however. On his way to the S-Mart, and while he and Paige had been talking, it had been snowing. But, as J.J. turned to make his way back home, the snow turned into rain.

The Music Behind the Story Days' Same Old Lang Syne is based on two different songs. One of them is "A Soldier's Silent Night" written by Lance Corporal James M. Schmidt and performed by Father Ted Brendt, the other is "Same Old Lang Syne" by Dan Fogelberg. Below are two links to the two songs. I hope that, by listening them, it will enhance the experience of the story. Enjoy! Merry Christmas! Same Old Lang SyneA Soldier's Silent Night

Thanks for all your kind comments! I'm so glad you enjoyed this story! As for my next story, Kpatch, it's starting Monday, the 5th. I would have started earlier, but I've been out of town all week. I'll be posting a preview for it tonight when I get home. It's called "The Search for Stories", and will be a mockumentary with some behind the scenes footage, as well; in the same vein as two of my previous stories: "A Look Back" and "Looking Back (To the Future)"
