Chapter 13
SALEM UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL
MARY BETH: If she remembers everything, that'll include that J.J. was set up. Before she fell, she was trying to find out who was involved in the set up. And she'll never stop looking.
EVE: Of course, she'll eventually find out that...
Eve thought for a moment.
MARY BETH: Find out that what?
EVE: ...that I was involved. Oh my god, what have I done?
MARY BETH: What do you mean?
EVE: Don't you get it? I set J.J. up. I hired Jill to set J.J. up, which she did. If I hadn't hired Jill, she wouldn't have taken those pictures, J.J. and Paige would never have broken up, Paige never would have had a fight with you and fallen down the stairs. My daughter would no be fighting for her life in there. This is all my fault!
ROAD
Stan was driving towards the airport. He passed a police car and saluted the officer that was in it. The officer in question was Roman. At first, he saluted back. Then, he did a double take.
ROMAN: What da hell?
Roman got out his cell phone and dialed a number.
MARLENA (over phone): Hello?
ROMAN: Hey, it's me.
MARLENA (over phone): Hi, Roman. How are you?
ROMAN: Well, Doc, I'm a bit concerned for our daughter.
MARLENA (over phone): Why's that?
ROMAN: I feel like I just saw a ghost from the past. Someone I never thought I'd see again. Do you happen to know where Sami is?
MARLENA (over phone): No, unfortunately. She said she was going out of town, but didn't say where to.
ROMAN: Well, this is interesting. I'm gonna make a couple calls and see what I can find out.
MARLENA (over phone): You don't think she's in any danger, do you?
ROMAN: If that man I just passed is who I think he is, then she may be. But, let's not jump to conclusions, Doc. I'll let you know everything once I find out.
MARLENA (over phone): Okay. Keep me posted.
ROMAN: For sure.
TERESA'S APARTMENT
Teresa walked in and sat down on her couch.
TERESA (thinking): Man, that was a rough day. So glad Anne finally agreed not to tell anybody. And why should she? It was just a one-time thing.
She looked at the bag sitting on her table.
TERESA (thinking): Man, I could really use a hit, though. Just to take the edge off. No, no. What am I saying? I told myself that it was just a one time thing, and that's all it is.
Teresa twirled a lock of her hair.
TERESA (thinking): Would it really be so bad, though? It would just be one more, and then I would get rid of it. I'll sell it, and have more money for the rent for this place.
Teresa rubbed her face.
TERESA (thinking): Gotta stop thinking like that. It was just a one time thing. That's all.
Teresa tried to take her mind off things. She turned on the TV, but soon got bored with that. She turned on the radio, but didn't find a station she wanted to listen to. She tried flipping through a magazine, but didn't find anything of interest in there. Finally, she went into the kitchen and grabbed a spoon. She went back to the couch, took a small handful of powder from the bag and put it on the spoon, placed a lit lighter underneath the spoon. When the powder had liquefied, She got out a syringe, soaked up a small amount of the liquid, and injected herself in the arm. Then, she sat back and relaxed.
