Chapter 5 COURT HOUSE E.J.: I don't have an alibi. FITZPATRICK: Are you sure about that, Mr. DiMera? E.J.: Oh yes. Very sure. FITZPATRICK: Very well. Elvis DiMera, you have been found guilty of murder in the first degree. The punishment shall be added to that of your previous unpaid crimes: tax evasion, theft, attempted murder, conspiracy to murder, conspiracy to cover up a murder, rape, disturbing the peace, smuggling, corporate embezzlement, kidnapping, attempted kidnapping, conspiracy to kidnapping, falsifying legal documents, and, last but most certainly not least, child endangerment, potential abuse and neglect. E.J.: You rather enjoyed reading that list, didn't you? The judge coughed. FITZPATRICK: No. As I was saying, your punishment for the aforementioned crimes is...death by lethal injection. You have 24 hours to say your goodbyes, then the chair is waiting for you. E.J.: Yes, your honor. SALEM COUNTY JAIL E.J. was sitting in his cell. Chad had come to visit. CHAD: You know you don't deserve this. E.J.: Yes, I do. What I did was terrible. CHAD: But not this terrible. E.J.: Well, thank you for not telling Judge Fitzpatrick that. CHAD: I'm serious about what I said earlier. E.J.: How's that, then? CHAD: I'm really not sure it was you that I saw. HORTON TOWN SQUARE It was the night of the murder. Sami stood under a street light. She turned. SAMI: What are you doing here? Then, she was shot. The shooter looked like E.J., but was too short. They were wearing an E.J.-like mask. They pulled the mask off to reveal the shooter as Nick. NICK: Taking my revenge.SALEM COUNTY JAIL E.J.: Don't be silly, Chad. Of course it was me. Who else could it have been?

No woman/secret is worth the death sentence. Guessing the woman in the veil was Abby.

Chapter 6 DEATH ROW Though only a handful had come to the trial, practically the whole town came out for E.J.'s execution. He had spent the last few hours saying his goodbyes. Though, to be fair, there weren't very many people wishing to say goodbye to him. The glass observation room was full. Everyone had a blank face, except for one. Nick had a small smirk on his face. He mouthed the word "thanks" to E.J. and winked. E.J. had seen, but did not respond. A doctor walked up. DOCTOR: This'll sting a bit. E.J.: Well, it'll all be over soon, anyway. DOCTOR: If you're lucky. Have you any last words? E.J.: I suppose you could say that this is all happening in the "nick" of time. Nick concealed a laugh with a cough. E.J.: It's just a shame nobody was able to stop me. E.J. looked at Abby. He mouthed the words "you're welcome". Abby's face remained set at blank. DOCTOR: Very well, then. This is the death of Elvis J. DiMera. He inserted a syringe into E.J.'s arm. E.J. took a deep breath, closed his eyes, and took the everlasting dirt nap. Slowly, the room was cleared out until only Nick and Abby remained. Nick gave Abby a knowing look, smirked, and walked out, leaving Abby, whose face seemed set in stone, to watch as E.J.'s body was wrapped up and taken away. Six Months Later Click here to listen to a song to accompany this last part of the story. It was a dark, dreary night in Salem. The kind of night where the wind is cold, and you don't go out unless you have to. On this occasion, however, there was one person who had left the safety of their house to face the bitter wind and the cold. They walked over a hill that led to the cemetery in Salem. The gate was already open. This person walked through the gate and toward a particular gravestone. Once this person got to the gravestone, they began to cry. This person was wearing a long, black veil. The wind caught the veil, sending it flying back. It is revealed that the woman behind the veil is Abby, and the grave she stood by was E.J.'s. Abby wept over E.J.'s grave a moment longer. Then, she lifted the veil back over her face, turned, and walked back over the hill. She walks these hills in a long, black veil She visits my grave when the night winds wail Nobody knows, nobody sees Nobody knows... ...but me.The End
