This is the story you’ve been waiting for, the story we never got to see on air -- Philip’s story upon learning that Parker isn’t his son.
I changed the timeline, backed it up to the end of 2012 instead of the beginning of 2013. But other than that, everything that happened on air also happened in this story, except for Nancy coming to Salem/taking Parker to Brazil, because that hadn't happened by the time I wrote this story. This story is intended to fill in the gaps, the things we should have seen when Chloe returned to Salem, but we didn't.
It is intended to follow my After the Fall trilogy, so if you haven’t read those stories, please click the links below and read them first, before continuing with Destiny’s Child.
After the Fall
Chasing the Moon
A Question of Love
This story will run every other weekday starting tomorrow.

Actually gapeach and villa281 it was indeed mentioned on the show. Kate brought it up. When they were planning his wedding to Melanie, Kate suggested they get Beyonce to perform since Philip likes her. And then later in the same ep or the next, Melanie tells Philip the idea about Beyonce. That's why I mentioned it in my fanfic, because it was funny and cute that he likes her. Not surprising though...many men do.

Thanks for that clarification... I have no recollection of that either, but I tended to tune out alot of what Kate said! Also, sorry I gave credit for the inclusion to kpatch!!

Chapter 1
The lake effect winds whipped down North State Street, the tall buildings creating a tunnel effect and making the night air feel even colder than 8 degrees above zero.
No hat, no coat, no gloves, no boots, no scarf. A few days worth of facial hair and more than a few shots of scotch in his belly were all that gave him any warmth. But it was cold comfort indeed, and when the sideways wind blew the sleet onto his cheeks, it felt as if he’d been slapped. The sting of the frozen rain brought him out of the haze he’d been in as he walked down the deserted Chicago streets.
It was Christmas eve and most everything was closed except for some bars. He was at least half a mile from the condo, no cabs in sight, and no desire to go home anyway.
Philip found himself walking into a Jewel Osco to get out of the cold, surprised it was even still open.
A voice called out to him. “We’re closing in 10 minutes.”
He nodded and half waved. Whatever. Lock me inside. I don’t care. He grabbed a shopping cart out of habit and started to walk up and down the aisles.
Aisle 1: Canned fruits, vegetables and juices. Aisle 2: Soft drinks, water, and snacks. Aisle 3: Beer and wine. Aha! He grabbed a six-pack of Budweiser and placed it in his cart. Not normally his brand, but who cares. Aisle 4: Cereal, baby food, and diapers.
Halfway up the aisle he stopped. Shelf upon shelf of Beechnut and Gerber baby foods ... Baby toys ... Baby wipes ... Diapers. He took a step backwards and lost his footing, collapsing onto the floor.
From his vantage point on the floor, he looked up at the rows of baby merchandise and didn’t even realize he was sobbing. He was sobbing sitting there on the floor in the middle of Aisle 4. And ironically it was the most comfortable position he’d been in all week.
The grocery clerk who informed him they were closing heard the clamor and hurried down the aisle. “Mister, you hurt? Hey you!” When Philip didn't answer, he kicked Philip’s leg. “You drunk or something? ... Jeez, I guess I’m gonna have to fill out a Slip and Fall report. Not exactly what I want to do on Christmas eve. Don’t move.”
Ha! Don’t move, Philip thought to himself. He had no intention of moving. He had nowhere to go and nothing to do anyway.
Back in the empty apartment, there was a Christmas tree, carefully and beautifully decorated. Under the tree were presents. Piles of presents. And almost all of them were for Parker, a little boy who he loved to pieces. A little boy who filled in every nook and cranny of his heart for the last two years. A little boy who, up until a month ago, called him Daddy.
To be continued Monday ...
