Chapter 1 SALEM PLACE The Autumn was now over. It had ended rather quickly. But now, Salem was in the grip of winter. The snow lay thick on the ground. Ciara and Claire were sitting in one of the shops. CLAIRE: I can't wait for this trip! CIARA: I know! It's gonna be awesome! Do you wanna leave after Christmas or New Year's? CLAIRE: I'm kinda thinking we should leave on New Year's Day. Start the new year off with the trip. CIARA: Sounds good. Which state are you most excited to see? CLAIRE: I don't really know. I'm just excited to see them all. What about you? CIARA: New New York. CLAIRE: New New York? CIARA: Yeah. That one state that's really close to the capitol. The one that got rebuilt after being destroyed by that terrible hurricane nearly 14 years ago. CLAIRE: Oh yeah. I remember hearing about that. Should be interesting to see how it's been rebuilt. I just can't wait to go on the trip in general. SYDNEY'S BEDROOM Sydney was lying on her bed, texting Ceri. Ceri had gone back to Wales for a few weeks to visit some of her mom's side of the family. Sydney missed her a lot. Suddenly, the door of her bedroom swung open and a man she recognized all too well walked in. E.J.: Sydney. Sydney sat bolt upright. It couldn't be him. It just couldn't. SYDNEY: Oh no. Daddy. But...you're dead. E.J.: You've been a very bad girl, Sydney. And you know what daddy does to bad little girls. E.J. walked towards her... PENTHOUSE Sydney sat up in her bed. It was the middle of the night. What was going on? John ran in. JOHN: Sydney? Sydney was breathing heavily, tears running down her face. John sat down on the bed next to her and put his arms around her. JOHN: Ssh. It's okay. It's okay. Did you have a bad dream? Sydney nodded. SYDNEY (crying): Daddy was here. He was mad at me for something I did. He...he was going to hurt me. Please, don't let him hurt me! JOHN: Ssh. It was just a dream, sweetheart. You're daddy's long gone. He's never gonna hurt you again. You're safe. It's okay. SYDNEY (crying): I'm scared! JOHN: I know. I know you're scared. But, it's okay. I'm right here, Sydney. I've got you. I'll never let anything happen to my sweet baby girl. You'll be all right, sweetie. Sydney sniffled. SYDNEY: Thanks, grandpa. John held Sydney for a while longer and tried to calm her down. Eventually, she fell asleep in his arms. John laid her down back in her bed. |

I agree. Great start. So sad that Sydney is still haunted by her father.
Nice touch mentioning New New York and the rebuilding after Hurricane Sandy. Looking forward to the road trip.

Chapter 2 SYDNEY'S BEDROOM Sydney was sitting in her room, writing in her notebook. I don't know why it keeps happeneing. Why I keep having dreams about it. Thankfully, it doesn't happen every night. But, it's been happening a lot more since Grandma Marlena died. I realy mis her! I wish she was here!Sydney heard the doorbell ring. But, she didn't get up to answer it. She was too busy writing in her journal. Then, she heard Lucas' voice. LUCAS (VO): Sydney! There's someone down here who wants to see you! Sydney put down her journal and walked downstairs. SAMI & LUCAS' APARTMENT When she got downstairs, Sydney saw that the person waiting to see her was Ceri. The two ran to each other and hugged. SYDNEY: It's so good to see you! CERI: Oh, it's good to see you too! SYDNEY: What are you doing back here already? I thought you, Rhiannon, and your dad were staying in Europe for Christmas. CERI: We were. But, at the last minute, dad decided that he would rather spend Christmas with Aunt Mel. So, we booked a quick flight back to Salem. SYDNEY: That's awesome! I'm glad you're back! CERI: Me too! Lucas subtley cleared his throat. LUCAS: Uh, Sydney, don't you think you have somebody to introduce to your mother? SYDNEY: Oh, yeah. Ceri, this is my mom. Mom, this is Ceri, my...um...my girlfriend. Sami and Ceri shook hands. SAMI: Nice to meet you. CERI: Nice to meet you, too, Mrs... SAMI: Horton. CERI: Mrs. Horton. So, Sydney, do you wanna go for a bit of a walk and catch up? SYDNEY: Sure, I'd love to. If it's okay with my parents. SAMI: Go ahead. Have fun. SYDNEY: Okay. See you later. Ceri and Sydney eft together, holding hands. |
