See, there could be plenty to write about and investigate if they actually had corporate stories and espionage going on (like we were hoping). The cast is too small for that now. I don't recall there ever being any real news in Salem even back then..a lot of sneaking around and hiding in tight places.. The only soap that ever had any legit newspaper biz stories was OLTL and even they had a limited scope due to the.constraints of the soap genre.

Days did have a legit newspaper business story for a while.

I know what you are talking about didn't compare to me to the one on oltl since the main thrust of that soap was rival papers. my opinion as someone who watched both soaps...but didn't love either. I watched most of Jack and Jenn during that time.

Well I don't watch OLTL or GH or Y&R anymore. We are talking about DAYS and I enjoyed the newspaper storyline a lot.

I have been watching numerous soaps since I was 7 years old, I can't help but compare and contrast them all. My mind naturally works that way. Currently, I watch DAYS, GH and Y&R..
Like every time I see Missy Reeves, I instantly think of her husband Scott, who is on GH, and how he has breathed new life into a blah character and has almost made him sexy...and then my mind goes back to Days and how Jennifer is the opposite of that.
One of the reasons why I mentioned OLTL and its newspaper stories is because Tomlin (the current headwriter) used to work for OLTL and perhaps with him back there is hope for a reporting story to happen on Days again.
AND Days is owned by Sony which owns YR - the cosmetic corporation soap. Days has been known to take ideas from YR...case in point the dueling cosmetic company storyline (now and back in the day when Countess W started) Y&R if you watched, has a media/newspaper storyline going on now (has actually been ongoing for the past few years).
Also the modeling storyline that Days attempted- Bold & the Beautiful - owned by Sony - is about the fashion industry. Days just had two actors on cast that used to be on BB (and on GH actually) - Sarah Brown (Madison) and Ian.
Since they are so few shows left they trade, staff, producers, actors, and IDEAS back and forth. At this point soaps are like one little unit now, just fighting for survival. It is a small soap world.

Thank you for explaining your thought process and how the soap dots get connected in your brain.

Jenn is interesting when she's investigating and getting herself into potentially dangerous situations. But, right now, all she's doing is ho hummm stuff, so naturally she's going to be boring.
I think that Days has missed out on potential of Basic Black/Titan/DiMera Enterprises wars (and Kate vs. Sami at what they do best). Jennifer working for Basic Black would have been a good fit (or her honoring Jack by starting up the Spectator again and investigating the DiMera goings on).
But, instead, they writers would rather write vanilla stories.

I like Jennifer and I just don't see where all the hatred is coming from. That's just me. I'm not sure in your when you refer to makeover whether you mean physical or the character's personality but I just have to say one shallow thing about her. I really think they need to color her hair better. Maybe she's a natural blond and they think her grey blends naturally but it doesn't. Her grey roots stand out and make her look washed out. These people have professionals at their disposal! I just think it would make her look a lot younger and brighter. JMO

I meant a makeover for her hair style, makeup and clothes. I agree that they could make her younger and brighter.

My Jennifer hate comes from her being boring. I like all characters to have some life to them, even if I don't like them, I still have a reaction. (The love to hate type thing). There are a number of characters in the soap world I don't like, but very few I wish gone from a show. When things are written well, all characters have a place on the canvas and they add to the dynamic of the show.
Jennifer is Blah...she could be gone tomorrow and I would barely notice, no impact, same goes for Abe, Sonny, Abigail (except when she went crazy for Austin), Cameron, Kayla...these characters have been created with (or currently written with) little to no personality and they add no drama to the show. Days is in jeopardy of cancellation. The show doesn't have time to waste on half done, one note, no personality characters. Jennifer's spot could be given to a more lively, more viable character that could be used in a story with the abundance of eligible men (Rafe, EJ, Brady, Chad, Nick, Daniel, another to come) on the show. A 25-35 year old woman would better serve Days right now than Jennifer.

Reminder: Please be careful when speaking of actors’ looks. There are things they can change about themselves, but there are things they can’t change, like their age. We haven't broken any site rules yet, so this is just a friendly reminder to keep us from going there. myhourglass.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=aboutus&thread=50&page=1#325Back to topic: I like Jennifer, I’ve always been a fan of hers, but I have to agree about her being blah. I have yet to see her be able to carry a storyline on her own. I don’t know why they keep her around without Jack. He was the yin to her yang. The "whole" that was Jack and Jen was better than the sum of its parts.

I've been wondering if they will keep Jennifer in Salem or send her to live near JJ.
I think she's pretty. I just meant a new hair style and makeup or some new clothes.

Thank you, this completely describes exactly how I feel about Jennifer. Jack and Jennifer have always been one of my favorite couples, but Jennifer without Jack has never interested me. I see no purpose for her without Jack.

I think Jennifer was best with Jack. I enjoyed her as a teenager too. Probably partly because I was watching it as a young teenager. If they aren't going to give her an interesting well written story then I'd prefer they send her out of town.

Kpatch. Thanks for the reminder. I'm not trying to put down anyone for age or appearance. I have plenty of grey and am probably about the same age as Jenn. ;)To me, hair color is just kind of like makeup so I was just trying to point out that a brighter color would be more flattering. Kind of like changing lipstick. I don't find Jenn that boring. Yes, she is "nice" and that can be boring sometimes but I think there should be a good mix of personalities on the show. I don't want all of them to have a wild streak or be bad girls or insecure. To me, Jennifer is one of the most realistic characters on the show. She seems like someone I'd know in real life and appreciate having as a friend.
