Chapter 740
ALAMAIN INDUSTRIES
Nicholas sat at his desk, drinking a cup of coffee. He had had a rather rough night. He hadn’t been interested in going home to have another fight with his father, so he stayed overnight at the Salem Inn. It was quicker from there to work, anyway. He kept thinking about the meeting he had had the day before. And in a short time, he would have a meeting with a lawyer to discuss potential loopholes that would mean Lawrence couldn’t take the company from him.
NICHOLAS (thinking): If Tony keeps his word, that is.
There was a knock at the door.
NICHOLAS: Come in.
Nicholas’ secretary, December, walked in.
DECEMBER: There’s a man here to see you, sir.
NICHOLAS: Thank you. Send him in.
December nodded, then walked out. A moment later, Tony walked in. Nicholas looked up from his papers and did a double take.
NICHOLAS: Well, this is a surprise.
TONY: Well, you did call me. I’m sorry that I’m a few days back to you. Anna and I were off in Switzerland visiting family.
MARTIN HOUSE
Spencer walked in.
SPENCER: Well, that’s Benny and Mattie off, then.
DOUG: It was very good to see them. I just wish they could have stayed longer.
JULIE: Me too, but they’ve promised to visit soon.
SPENCER: Right. So, ready to go, Dad?
STEVEN: I certainly am. Finally, we can put all of this behind us.
JULIE: Will we be seeing you soon?
STEVEN: Of course. I’ll be back in a day or two. Once I get this hearing with the parole board over with, I’m coming back.
DOUG: Well, good. Best of luck to you, Steven. I’m sure things will go well.
Steven and Doug shook hands.
STEVEN: Thanks, Doug. Julie.
JULIE: Good luck.
STEVEN: You too.
Julie and Steven embraced.
JULIE: It’s good to see you, as well, Spencer.
SPENCER: You too, Aunt Julie.
JULIE: Next time, don’t make it so long between visits.
Spencer chuckled slightly.
SPENCER: I’ll make a point of it. Especially since Dad’s planning on staying up here.
DOUG: We’re very glad to hear it. Good having you, Spence.
SPENCER: Thanks, Uncle Doug.
Doug and Spencer shook hands.
SPENCER: Well, here we go.
STEVEN: Indeed. I’ll call after the hearing’s over and let you know how things turn out.
JULIE: Please do.
DOUG: We’ll see you two later.
Julie and Doug waved as Steven and Spencer left. Julie sighed.
JULIE: Well, some things never cease to amaze me.
DOUG: What’s that, dear?
JULIE: My brother. I didn’t exactly believe it when Spencer first told me, but it seems like Steven really has changed for the better.
DOUG: Well, you and I both know that that is entirely possible.
Julie nodded.
JULIE: Perhaps him being back in town more permanently won't be so bad.
BRADY PUB
Ciara and Claire sat at a table.
CIARA: I’m glad Shawn and Belle let me stay overnight last night.
CLAIRE: Me too. I always love having sleepovers with you. I’m sorry that Trix couldn’t come.
CIARA: Me too. But, it’s okay. Once we start school again, hopefully we’ll get to room together.
CLAIRE: Yeah, that’ll be nice.
Ciara nodded. Claire touched her knuckles with her own.
CLAIRE: Hey. What’s going on in there?
Ciara shrugged.
CIARA: I have therapy in a little bit. Even though I’ve already had one session, I’m kinda nervous. God, that sounds stupid saying it, doesn’t it?
CLAIRE: No. You’re going through some intense stuff. It makes sense that talking about it would be hard.
CIARA: I guess.
CLAIRE: Hey, it’s okay. I know it’s hard, but you’ve got this. You’re one of the strongest people I know.
CIARA: Thanks.
CLAIRE: If I didn’t have work in 15 minutes, I’d come with you.
CIARA: I appreciate it. It’s okay, though. Trix is gonna meet me there. She was tired from the party, so she slept in.
CLAIRE: Gotcha. Well, good luck.
CIARA: Thanks. Good luck at work.
CLAIRE: Thanks. Text me later?
CIARA: Of course!
Claire and Ciara hugged. As Ciara left, Claire put on her apron.
KIRIAKIS MANSION
Henderson brought some suitcases downstairs. Maggie, Melissa, Nathan and Sarah followed closely behind.
MAGGIE: You’re sure you can’t stay a few more days?
MELISSA: Oh, I’d love to, Mom. You know I would. But I have to get back to work.
MAGGIE: Oh, I know. I just love having all of us together again.
MELISSA: Me too. But, I will be back soon, I promise.
MAGGIE: Well, good.
Melissa and Maggie hugged.
MAGGIE: It’s been wonderful having you home, darling.
MELISSA: It’s been great to be home!
Next, Nathan and Maggie hugged.
NATHAN: Good to see you, Grandma.
MAGGIE: You too! Take care up at Johns Hopkins.
NATHAN: I will.
Melissa and Sarah hugged.
MELISSA: Good to see you, sis.
SARAH: You too. Have a good trip back. And thanks for everything.
MELISSA: Of course. It’s been good having you around. The house is gonna be empty without you.
SARAH: And a lot quieter.
Melissa and Sarah laughed, then Sarah hugged Nathan.
SARAH: Good to see you, kid.
NATHAN: You too, Aunt Sarah. Take care of yourself.
SARAH: I will. You too.
NATHAN: For sure.
Maggie and Sarah followed Melissa and Sarah our to the car and watched as they drove away. Then, Maggie put her arm around Sarah and the two walked inside.
MAGGIE: So, you said you wanted to talk to me last night about you staying, but we didn’t get the chance before the interruption. What’s going on?
SARAH: Well, I was thinking...if you wouldn’t mind, of course, I was thinking about staying in Salem for a while.
MAGGIE: Mind? Sweetheart, of course I don’t mind! I’d love it if you stayed!
SARAH: Thanks. I just spent so long being stubborn about stupid stuff, and then I was sick for a while, so now that I’m healthy and I came back here...being back home is amazing!
MAGGIE: I’m so glad you feel that way! Victor and I would love to have you! Honey, you know your room is always ready for you here. Please, stay as long as you want.
SARAH: Thanks! I love you, Mom.
MAGGIE: I love you too, darling.
Sarah and Maggie hugged.
