Chapter 7

SALEM P.D.
HOPE: I tried to license plate, but it was registered out to a guy who died five years ago.
Hope was telling Roman about her bizarre experience on the highway.
ROMAN: Did you get a good look at the guy driving it?
HOPE: Not really. It was kinda dark. He had a bad bowl haircut. His clothes were all black. He seemed more bored than anything else. Looked kinda like Billy Bob Thornton, actually.
ROMAN: Well, I'll keep on the lookout for someone who fits that description. At least we know the plate numbers of the car he was driving, so that helps.
HOPE: Unless he gets another car.
There was a knock at the door.
ROMAN: Come in.
Rafe entered.
RAFE: Commissioner, Detective Brady.
ROMAN: Detective Hernandez. Done with your evening rounds?
RAFE: Yep. Just signing out. Thought you might want to know what I found, though.
ROMAN: Okay, I'll bite, what did you find?
RAFE: Serena Mason's been murdered. Paramedics were called. I'm a little surprised you don't know already.
ROMAN: I'll have to change the batteries in my walkie talkie. So, how do we know it was murder?
RAFE: Not hard to figure out. She had a bullet hole in her brain. No gun left lying around. No evidence suggesting she may have done it herself. That leads me to suspect murder.
ROMAN: I see. I'll look into it. Thank you.
RAFE: You're welcome.
Rafe was about to leave when his walkie talkie went off.
RAFE: Hernandez.
There was a muffled noise from the walkie talkie.
RAFE: 10-4. I'm on my way.
He holstered his walkie talkie.
RAFE: Looks like I'm not getting off early after all. There's been a disturbance reported over at the Titan TV building. I'm gonna go check it out.
HOPE: Good luck.
RAFE: Thanks. Commissioner.
Roman nodded.

OFFICE
ERIC: Answer the question, what are you gonna do if I don't get out of here?
NICOLE: I'll call the police.
ERIC: Go ahead. They won't do anything. Your word against mine. Who do you think they're more likely to believe? Me, the former priest and all around good guy...or you?
Nicole stood up, picked up her purse, and hit Eric over the side of the head with it, hard.
NICOLE: I said get out of my office!
The force of the blow was enough to knock Eric backwards, he hit his head on the wall and was on the ground in seconds. A nearby chair had toppled over, he had knocked it over when he fell, and was laying on top of Eric's body. For a moment, Nicole just stood there, stunned by what had happened. Then, she got out her phone and dialed a number.
SPADES (over phone): What?
NICOLE: I'm...uh, I'm in a little trouble. That...that guy I told you about...
Nicole was at a loss for words.
SPADES (over phone): Have you been a bad girl, Nicole?
Nicole tried to say something, but couldn't make any words come out.
SPADES (over phone): Where?
NICOLE: The Titan TV building.
The phone clicked and Spades was gone.
NICOLE: Hello?

Uh oh. I assume Eric is just stunned but calling Spades is a very bad idea.

LOL at Roman having dead batteries in his walkie talkie. Typical Salem PD ineptness.

Chapter 8

OFFICE
Nicole stood over Eric's body, trying to work out what she was going to do. She bent down and felt for a pulse. There was none.
NICOLE: Oh my god! He's dead! Oh no!
Nicole went to her desk and got some paper towels. She attempted to wipe up the blood that poured from Eric's head, but only succeeded in making a stain on the carpet. Suddenly, there was a knock on the door.
NICOLE: Just a second.
Nicole tried to put herself together. Then, she opened the door as little as she could, walked out, and was faced with Rafe.
NICOLE: Rafe, hi!
RAFE: Nicole.
NICOLE: What...what are you doing here?
RAFE: There was a report of a disturbance in this office building, on this floor.
NICOLE: A disturbance? What is it?
RAFE: It's an outbreak of disorder, or the breach of public peace, but that's not important right now.
NICOLE: No, I mean what's the disturbance?
RAFE: Oh, that. I'm not quite sure. All the report said was that there was a lot of yelling. Haven't heard anything, have you?
NICOLE: Nope. Can't say that I have.
RAFE: Hm.
Rafe nodded at the door.
RAFE: Mind if I come in for a minute?
Nicole gulped.
NICOLE: In? As in inside? In my office?
RAFE: Yeah. I need to report back to Roman about my findings. This is the last part of the office I checked, and I haven't found anything yet. Just need to find a place to sit down and write the report.
NICOLE: I'd really rather you didn't. See, I've been cleaning stuff in there, I had a rather nasty spill.
RAFE: I don't mind. Just need a few minutes.
Rafe went for the door, but then his cell phone went off.
RAFE: Hernandez.
Nicole could just hear Spades' voice coming from the phone.
SPADES (over phone): Detective Hernandez, hi. This is Commissioner Brady's new deputy, Bruce LaBruce.
RAFE: What can I do for you?
SPADES (over phone): Well, I'm calling because Commissioner Brady sent me to Titan TV headquarters as back up, and I've found the sight of the disturbance. It's down on the first floor, near the back exit. It's very well hidden, though. Do you think you could come down and check it out with me?
RAFE: I'll be there in a minute.
Rafe hung up his phone.
RAFE: Looks like I'll have to write that report later. Roman's new deputy found the disturbance.
NICOLE: Great. Well, glad you found it. I gotta go, too.
Nicole and Rafe rode the elevator together.
NICOLE: My car is around back.
The elevator opened, and the two got out. They started walking, but then stopped.
RAFE: Hey, wait a minute.
NICOLE: What?
RAFE: Roman doesn't have a new deputy.
Out of nowhere, Spades showed up and shot Rafe twice, once in the head and once in the chest.

This story is becoming quite the blood bath. Not Rafe too I hope these deaths will turn out to be fake somehow.

Poor Rafe. It's too bad that he was assigned to check out the disturbance.

Chapter 9

OFFICE
For a moment, Nicole just stood there, stunned. She had now watched both Eric and Rafe die right before her. She looked up at Spades, but he was gone. He wasn't gone for long, though. He came back with two garbage bags in hand.
SPADES: Where did you put the first one?
NICOLE: It's still in my office.
Together, Nicole and Spades got rid of both Eric and Rafe's bodies. It was not a pleasant experience.

APARTMENT
The next morning, Nicole was getting ready for work, while watching the news.
NEWSCASTER: And in other news, there's a hunt out for the person who killed a woman yesterday afternoon. The body of 35 year old Serena Mason was found on the edge of the town of Salem by police last night.
NICOLE: What?
NEWSCASTER: Authorities say that there was a bullet hole in her head. Police could not comment on who they believe to be the prime suspect. And now, let's move on to Gary Kerplumpous with the weather...
Nicole turned the TV off. Was it true? Could Serena really be dead? She got out her phone and sent a text message.

PARK
A little while later, she was standing in the park. Spades walked in and jestured to Benchy.
SPADES: Take a seat.
Nicole and Spades sat down.
NICOLE: Why did you kill her?
SPADES: To whom are you referring?
NICOLE: You know to whom I'm referring. Serena Mason, why did you kill her?
SPADES (feigning ignorance): Oh my god. Is Serena dead?
NICOLE: What? You know that she's dead!
SPADES: Why did you kill her?
NICOLE: I didn't kill her! You did!
SPADES: Do you have any proof of that?
NICOLE: No, but I have a good memory. Anyway, I didn't ask you to kill her.
SPADES: Yes, you did.
NICOLE: I was just joking around.
SPADES: Didn't sound that way to me.
NICOLE: Look, even if I wasn't...
SPADES: I told you to say one word: yes or no.
NICOLE: And I didn't say yes!
SPADES: You didn't say no, either.
NICOLE: I...
Nicole took a deep breath.
NICOLE: Heck. So, yesterday, three murders were committed. Two by you. The other one you made me commit.
SPADES: I didn't make you do anything.
NICOLE: You told me I should stand up for myself. I did, and I accidentally killed Eric because of it.
SPADES: You know what your problem is? Your problem is that you've spent your whole life thinking that there are rules. There aren't. We used to be gorillas. All we had was what we could take, and we had to defend that. Truth is, you're a stronger person today than you were yesterday. NICOLE: How do you figure that?
Spades' phone buzzed. He looked at it.
SPADES: Have to go. New project. Requires urgent attention.
He put his phone away and stood up.
SPADES: Don't try to contact me again, Nicole.
He walked away.

What is Nicole going to do know? Yikes.

Nicole is in too deep. Seems like she has no way out.

Chapter 10

Although the bodies had been hidden, it didn't take the Salem P.D. long to find Eric and Rafe. Over the following weeks, their funerals, as well as one for Serena, were held. In the interveneing time, Gabi had been let out of prison and was now living in the apartment Rafe had been living in. It was now the middle of winter. The snow lay thick on the ground.

APARTMENT
Gabi was in the kitchen, making hot chocolate. The phone rang. Gabi picked it up.
GABI: Hello?
MAN (over phone): Miss Gabriella Hernandez?
GABI: Yes, who is this?

CAR
On the side of the road, Spades sat in a car, talking on the telephone. He was smirking.
SPADES: This is Cornelius Peabody Tenderbone III, I'm your brother, Rafael Hernandez's lawyer.
GABI (Over phone): I thought Justin Kiriakis was Rafe's lawyer.
SPADES: Well, he was, but shortly before his death, he switched lawyers and came to me.
GABI (over phone): Okay. So, what can I do for you?
SPADES: You see, as I'm your brother's lawyer, it's my job to read out his last will and testament.
GABI (over phone): Oh, okay. Where's your office and what time would you like me to come over?
SPADES: Oh, there's no need to come over, I can read it off to you right now on the phone. Are you ready?

APARTMENT
GABI: Yep.
SPADES (over phone): Okay, here it goes. (pretending to be reading) This is the last will and testament of Rafael Hernandez. In the event of my death, I will be leaving all of my worldly possessions, everything that I own to my smart, wonderful, amazing, talented...
Gabi's face lit up.
SPADES (over phone): ...trustworthy, spectacular, beautiful and all around amazing...brother, Dario Hernandez.
Gabi's face fell. There was a long pause.

CAR
For the first time in this story, Spades was smiling.
SPADES: Well, that's all that it says.
GABI (over phone): Oh...are you sure?
SPADES: Oh, yes. Very sure. I have the paper right here in front of me.
GABI (over phone): I see.
SPADES: Well, sorry about that. But, that's the way it goes, I guess.
GABI (over phone): Yeah...thanks for the call.
SPADES: Have a nice day.
Spades hung up the phone, and then started driving again. He pulled into the parking lot of a bar and parked. He went into the glove compartment and pulled out a glasses case. He took the glasses out of said case and put them on. Then, making sure he had his fake I.D. in his pocket, Spades made his way out of the car and into the bar.

What is Spades up to now??? I hope Gabi isn't the next victim. I don't know how many more deaths I can take. LOL
